Instagram Worthy Dorset Destinations
We all love a bit of Instagram, hours get eaten up as you disappear down the #travel rabbit hole. Perfectly coutured Instagram accounts put us all to shame, that pastel delight of tropical locations and floaty white dresses, how do they do that?
Don’t worry though. You may not have the 6k follower account but sharing good photos and what you love is what Instagram is all about. So, on a visit to Dorset where can you go to get the most ‘bang for your buck’ on the photography front?
Below I’ve shared with you some of my favourite places for grabbing those Instagram worthy photos guaranteed to get a multitude of loves from your tribe.
A trip to Weymouth is fun on its own. The expansive beaches coupled with the gaudy beach buckets and spades. The twinkling fairground lights and the cute harbour full of fishing boats, Weymouth contains all the ingredients in one small walkable area for a few weeks worth of delectable images.
There are a number of iconic photos to be taken on the little island of Portland. Not only do you have the red and white lighthouse Portland Bill but the beautiful Pulpit Rock, get the angle right and you have expansive sky and sea backdrops. Add to that the multitude of dry docked boats, beach huts, leftover quarry machinery and you have a visit which delivers a heavy hit on the photography front.
A Manor House of fabulous proportions and a multitude of landscaped gardens, ranging from formal planting to woodland walks, Kingston Lacy has it all. If you love photographing buildings, antiques, gardens and/or plants, then this National Trust property can provide a plethora of interesting photos.
Fontmell and Melbury Downs
When it comes to extensive views you cannot beat the undulating green field views from these. Beautiful walks along the Melbury Downs which are run by the National Trust. Climb to the top of the hill and the 360 degree sight lines across the local villages and fields are a photography dream. Add to that a beautiful sunrise or sunset and you have an Instagram hit.
Abbotsbury is a lovely little village chock full of quintessential English tea shops, thatched properties and old churches. For a small village, it has a multitude of photographic delights, whether you lust after the far reaching views from the isolated and haunting St Catherines Chapel. Or the beautiful blue seas, pretty pebble beach and fisherman fishing from shore on Chesil beach.
Standing alone in a gap between the Purbeck Hills this imposing and crumbling castle is an iconic image of Dorset. Steeped in history and overlooking the pretty village of Corfe the photos tell stories of times gone by. Corfe Castle is a must visit for amazing photographs.
